Ask your kids about...

This weekend ask your kids about the rock cycle.

And how they are going to practice their math facts.
We brainstormed about 7-8 different and fun ways to practice our facts.

Calling all Dads!

On Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. we will be having our 2^nd annual WATCH D.O.G.S. kickoff meeting.   

WATCH D.O.G.S. is an innovative program being used by schools across America which helps them to be positively impacted by the committed involvement of fathers and father-figures in their student’s life.  Our goal is to have you spend at least one day this year at the school to be a positive male role model and to help promote a safe and positive school environment.

Dads, granddads, uncles, step-dads and adult brothers. . . . this is your chance to have a night out alone with your Robertson student in a fun atmosphere at school!

Don't forget that there is no school on Monday. I like to do my blogging on Monday morning, but I'm doing it today since I will not be at school.

Next week we should be working on addition and subtraction in math, once we finish up Estimation.

Welcome Back!!!!

Well we are almost done with the first week of school. It has been fast and the weather has been really hot.
If you are reading this than I probably teach your student math and science. I'm glad I get to work with all the 5th grade students that are in my classes.

We are going to have a great year!

Last week

It is the last week of school.
I hope everyone has a fun and safe summer.

Bridges

We will be building the bridges this week and we will be testing them on Wednesday or Thursday.

All corrected grades and make-up work due this Wednesday.

Math and science

This week we will be starting a bridge project in math and science. We will only be working on the the actual building of the project in class, but students my need to research bridge plans outside of class using books or the world wide web.

Field Day this Friday

Robertson will be having Field Day this Friday, the 13th.
Please rememeber your sack lunches and athletic shoes.

Four Days

We don't have school on Monday. And we will be getting back to just math in math class. We had been helping with science review for the Science TAKS.
Stay dry.

This week...TAKS

This is a reminder that 3rd, 4th and 5th grade are TAKS testing this week, which means there are no visitors on campus for Tuesday-Thursday.

Also Fun Run pledges need to collected. The school still needs to collect about 30% of the pledges. Thanks for your help.

Have your 5th grade rest-up on Wednesday for the Science TAKS test on Thursday.

Supplies

The 5th grade is running low on facial tissues, glue sticks and pencils. We still have seven weeks of school.

Science!?!

In math for the next few weeks, we will be doing both math and science. There are some great activities that integrate both subjects. We will still be using our math skills, but in a way that helps review for the science TAKS test. You will be seeing less math homework.

TAKS...

This is my week of April 4th post:
We have math TAKS and reading TAKS test on Monday and Tuesday.
This weekend please have some fun and get out and enjoy the sunshine with your child.
But on Sunday please have your kid get plenty of rest and sleep on Sunday night.
DON"T FORGET: no cellphones on Monday and Tuesday.

Review Week

This week we have been reviewing for the math TAKS. We have covered fractions, word problems, and tables. Today we will review measurement conversion.

We have also been doing mix review worksheets and warm-ups to refresh our memories.

Another Cluster

We will be starting the last new cluster before the TAKS test. It is Cluster 8 and it covers geometry. It is a vocabulary heavy cluster, so please try to review/ use the math terms with your child over the next two weeks.
Geometry Vocabulary:
acute, intersecting lines, line, line segment, vertex,obtuse angle, right angle, ray,parallel lines, perpendicular line, parallelogram, and all the polygons (rectangles, squares etc.)

The 5th grade will meet this morning with counselors form Stafford to talk about next year. Please be on the look out for registration information. If you have any question please feel free to contact your students homeroom teacher.

Welcome back everyone. I hope that we all stayed warm over the past week.

This week in math, if the weather doesn't change things, we will take the Practice TAKS test on Thursday. The CBA that we were going to take will be move to early next week.

Make sure your student get plenty of rest on Wednesday night.

Also if you didn't know the real TAKS test will be on a Monday this year.

CBA this week!

We will have the 5th CBA for math this week on Wednesday. It is the longest CBA so far, with 18 question. Make sure we get a good night's rest and are ready to work hard.

Perimeter Area and Volume

Right now and for the next couple of day we are working on perimeter, area and volume. The students are to write their own word problem on either perimeter, area or volume. There is a handout with more information on it. It is due on Wednesday the 19th. They have notes in their math journals on all three, including the formulas.

I hope everyone had a great break/holiday. I hope everyone is rested and ready to continue the math unit of measurement. We will be doing customary units of conversion this week, for example feet to inches and gallons to cups.

I got to enjoy a little time in Red River, New Mexico. And lots of time with my family.
