Change Drive

In the wake of recent tragedies, many in the FISD community have been asking what they can do to help our neighbors in the Granbury area, West, Texas and Moore, Oklahoma.

As these communities work to rebuild, the outpouring of support has been great, but the biggest need continues to be monetary donations.

To assist in this effort, each Frisco ISD school will collect change in the front office between May 28-31.

Donations will be split between the fund to support the town of West, as well as funds administered by the Red Cross to support those in Granbury and Moore.

Students, parents and staff members are encouraged to participate in this District-wide Change Drive.

West, Texas

Let’s show the community of West our FISD BEST!
Parents and students, many have been asking what can be done to help the community of West, our neighbors to the south who were recently impacted by the tragic explosion. Two of the four schools were destroyed. As they work to rebuild, the outpouring of support has been great, but their biggest need at this time is monetary donations. On May 28-31, we will have receptacles in the front office so that parents, students and staff members can drop of their change. We will then collect it all across the District and our bank depository will issue one check to the account set up in West, Texas, for this purpose. We will be sure to let you all know what is collected and sent by the FISD family! Every little bit of change helps and no donation is too small.

Please know that we would like everyone to participate but it is in no way a competition and we will not even be tracking the donations by school. This is one effort, one district. Feel free to enlist the help of your PTA folks so they can help you by making a receptacle, communicating, etc.

STAAR testing info.

April 2013

Dear Parents,

Fifth grade students are scheduled to take the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) tests in Science on April 24th, 2013.
There are several things that you can do to help your child be successful on this test.

·         Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep the night before the test.
·         Prepare a healthy breakfast for your child on the morning of the test.
·         Have your child arrive at school on time that morning to avoid feeling rushed.
·         We will provide each student with a juice and muffin in the morning.  We will also provide a water bottle for each student to use during the test.  You may provide your student with a healthy, non messy snack as long as it is packaged in a clear plastic baggie.
·         Do not schedule any medical appointments for your child on test day.
·         Please do not plan to eat lunch with your child on test day.
·         Finally, send your child to school with a hug and words of encouragement.

Please note, cell phones are not allowed in the classroom during testing. Thank you for your support in preparing your student for the STAAR test.

Sincerely,

Dear Parents,

Fifth grade students are scheduled to take the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) tests in Math on April 2, 2013 and in Reading on April 3, 2013. This administration is the first of three opportunities for fifth graders to take and pass the STAAR Math and Reading tests. Students that do not achieve a successful score on April 2nd or 3rd will have a second opportunity on May 14th and 15th. The final opportunity will be during the summer. Fifth grade students are required to pass the STAAR Math and STAAR Reading tests prior to being promoted to the sixth grade.

There are several things that you can do to help your child be successful on this test.

Short week...lots of work

This week we will be taking the last math CBA before the Math STAAR test.

We will be reducing the amount of science that we do this week so we can have more time to review math topics for the STAAR test.

Please look for the letter about STAAR in this week's Thursday folder.
