STAAR TESTING

Dear Parents,

Fifth grade students are scheduled to take the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) tests in Math on April 2, 2013 and in Reading on April 3, 2013. This administration is the first of three opportunities for fifth graders to take and pass the STAAR Math and Reading tests. Students that do not achieve a successful score on April 2^nd or 3^rd will have a second opportunity on May 14^th and 15^th. The final opportunity will be during the summer. Fifth grade students are required to pass the STAAR Math and STAAR Reading tests prior to being promoted to the sixth grade.  

There are several things that you can do to help your child be successful on this test.

·         Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep the night before the test.

·         Prepare a healthy breakfast for your child on the morning of the test.

·         Have your child arrive at school on time that morning to avoid feeling rushed.

·         We will provide each student with a juice and muffin in the morning.  We will also provide a water bottle for each student to use during the test.  You may provide your student with a healthy, non messy snack as long as it is packaged in a clear plastic baggie.

·         Do not schedule any medical appointments for your child on test day.

·         Please do not plan to eat lunch with your child on test day.

·         Finally, send your child to school with a hug and words of encouragement.

Please note, cell phones are not allowed in the classroom during testing. Thank you for your support in preparing your student for the STAAR test.
